The Knowledge Foundation was established in 1994 by the Swedish Parliament.
Our mission
The foundation aims to boost Sweden's competitiveness by supporting:
research and postgraduate programmes
competence development in industry
school development and IT
Our business
Firstly the foundation provides support for Sweden's new universities so that they can build up research of a high international standard. The goal is for research to be attractive to industry. One condition for receiving support is that the university must find partners in industry willing to match the foundation's funding.
Secondly the foundation supports the development of tailor-made training programmes to help those working in industry to acquire the skills that businesses need. These programmes focus on newly emerging industries with real growth potential and are developed in a partnership between academia and industry.
Thirdly the foundation operates a school IT programme which aims primarily to inspire schools to develop new ways of working and to disseminate experience from previous projects. As part of this programme we also support initiatives to enable more young people to apply to higher education.
